Evocative

A word with a feel to it, plus what you do. Room to grow, and easy to say.

Straight down the line

The trade's own vocabulary. Nobody has to guess what you sell.

The something

A definite article makes a small business sound like an institution.

Two words, no explanation

Short, abstract and brandable. Best when you will grow past one trade.

Understated

One good word and a quiet suffix. Ages well.

Naming a photography business

Your name is the honest option and it is not taken. Invent a studio name only if you intend to hire other photographers under it one day.

Before you settle on one

  • Check the domain is free. A name you cannot have the address for is not really available.
  • Search Companies House and the trade mark register, so you are not building on somebody else's name.
  • Say it down the phone to someone who has not seen it written. If they spell it back wrong, keep looking.

Check a name of your own

Or use the business name generator, which hides names whose domain has already gone.
